A not so typical love story

J- I love you…there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you

M– Hmmn… I love you too…ish. I love you but I’ll cheat on you because sometimes I just think you dying for me isn’t enough. So I would rather go for something that feels good right now rather than eternal joy…yeah that makes sense

“If you love me, keep My commandments”

J- I know you don’t understand fully the consequences of what you’re doing now but just come back, I’ll give you joy, peace, a fulfilled life; what more do you need? I literally know all that you need in life and I prepared it before your parents even thought of conceiving you

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly”

M- No thanks, I’ll rather get high tonight and resume being miserable tomorrow, continue in this relationship leading nowhere, chase after money and vain things that would increase my misery anyway

J- Sigh…I gave my life for you, why won’t you just accept the reward of that? I died just so you could have joy forever! why is it so hard for you to give your life completely and surrender to a life of redemption, reconciled with your creator. I have overcome this world that you care so much about, it’s fleeting, here today, gone tomorrow. It’s so uncertain! look around what’s happening in the world today! war and chaos everywhere, the world is upside down and you still choose to see life so narrowly?

“For nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places”

All this I have put in the manual of life, the Bible, just so you could have direction but you barely use it as a guide rather you see it as a religious compulsion, something you HAVE to do.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine…”

M-uhhh…yeah I see what’s happening in the world but I still have to be relevant to men…even though you created them. I still care about being relevant to them and not so much you…the Creator. I want to be celebrated by MEN, be noticed by MEN, and be rewarded by MEN.

J- what reward could men possibly give you? Disappointment characterizes man

“God is not man, that He should lie…”

M-but they are the ones I see physically…

J-for now

M– I’ll come back to you, okay? I’ll serve you later in life when I can. Pray to you but still go back to sin because you’re so merciful and kind, I know you’ll forgive me.

Okay bye now, talk to you whenever

“Then the Son of Man will appear in  Heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of Heaven with power and great glory”

“All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats”

Sound familiar? This is what our relationship with God sometimes looks like. J is, of course, Jesus and M is man, humanity. It’s up to us if we want our love story with God to end happily, this is a love story we can actually win on all sides. The sacrifice has already been made for us.

I pray we utilise the grace we have in us to live a life pleasing to God because it’s very possible If you believe and desire.
